Serbian authorities denied the intention to redeem Montenegro's debt from China


The Serbian Ministry of Finance has denied allegations by some Montenegrin media that Serbia is close to an agreement with China to purchase Montenegro's debt for the Bar Bolyare motorway. According to the B92.net portal in the ministry, this information is definitely not true. Earlier, some Montenegrin media reported that Serbia was completing negotiations with Chinese officials to buy back a loan from their Exim bank for the construction of a section of the Bar-Bolyare highway passing through Montenegro. As indicated in these publications, if Montenegro fails to repay the loan and Serbia and China conclude the agreement, one option for Montenegro will be to lease part of the road through its territory to Serbia. In this case, Serbia will become the economic master of Montenegro, which is now almost certainly, given that our economy is in poor condition, some Montenegrin media said then.
