Anti-Soviet background: 30 years of unrest in Yerevan
May 27, 1990 in Yerevan, clashes broke out between local residents, the militants of illegal armed groups and soldiers of the Soviet army. Transient conflict that erupted at the city railway station and continued on the highway near the capital, led to casualties on both sides. The exact cause of the incident is unknown. According to one version, the troops tried to prevent the approval of results of elections to the Supreme Soviet of Armenia.
