Georgia plans to export more funduk in 2020
In 2020, demand for funduk may grow, making it possible for Georgia to export more nuts at an increased price. This is reported on April 20 by the agency Report with reference to the founder of one of the largest Georgian export companies Mamuku Beriashvili. He reported that in Turkey, traditionally exporting funduk, there was an invasion of marble bedbugs, which could negatively affect the nut harvest and increase its cost. According to our estimates, this will increase the price of nuts by about 20%. Consequently, the total volume of exports in monetary equivalent will also increase, Beriashvili told journalists. In this case, Georgia will be able to sell more funduk at a better price if demand for it on the world market does not decrease. It should be noted that according to Georgstat, in 2019 Georgia sold funduk abroad for $67 million.
